When the UK is hit particularly badly with heavy rainfall it always brings back memories of the story most of us were told when we were kids. Water flooded the Earth for a hundred and fifty days and every living thing on Earth was wiped out except the for the two of each living creature that Noah kept on his ark.
Some of the most recent storms that have hit the UK over the last few years have been pretty disastrous and left some pretty unimaginable damage behind – You wouldn’t believe some of the before and after photos that were taken in 2014
So what are some of the worst, most recent floods in the UK?
At the end of 2015 we had one of the wettest Decembers in over a century.
Storms Desmond and Eva flooded over 16,000 homes in England. On the 5th December storm Desmond brought more than a months worth of rain to parts of Cumbria leading to heavy flooding in areas such as Carlisle. On the 12th December flooding had gotten so bad that more than 70 flood warnings were sent out across the UK. By the 22nd of December some properties had flooded for the third time since the beginning of the storm. Come the end of the storm a years worth of repairs estimated at a cost of £3m were to be undertaken.
Winter storms hit the UK in December 2013 / January 2014 with heavy consequences. Scotland’s rail network was completely shut down and over 100,000 UK homes were left without power over the Christmas period. In total seven lives were claimed and 1,700 properties were completely flooded over a one month period.
Many of the people living in the places affected could never have dreamed a situation like Noah’s ark to have happened but modern day flooding at its worst comes pretty close to it. If you’re worried about flooding and need advice visit our website.
