Volker Stevin - Todmorden
Calder River bank improvements to prevent future flooding.
Volker Stevin, working alongside the Environment Agency and CH2M HILL completed a flood defence project to protect Todmorden against flash floods from Walsden Water and the River Calder.
Reason for requirement:
A three-year project was secured by Volker Stevin to overhaul a 1.1km section of watercourse along Walsden Water, which flows from south to north through the town of Todmorden.
The project required the upgrading of the existing flood defence retaining walls and culverts located along this length. A prerequisite of the project was the procurement of a temporary demountable flood defence system that was to be installed whenever the river wall was taken down to raise it to the required flood protection height.
Floodsense Ltd was contacted to review the project requirements and offered the Aquafence as the most suitable product for this type of work. This was due to the Aquafence system being the only system in Europe that has FM Global approval for heights up to 2.4 meters.
125 meters of 1.2-meter-tall temporary demountable flood defences with associated corners and equipment.
Aquafence was used to protect homes from flooding whilst embankment improvement works were carried out.
