Weir Minerals - Todmorden

Property:

Pump Manufacturing plant Weir Minerals Europe Ltd is owned by the FTSE 100 group Weir and are specialists in delivering and supporting slurry and dewatering equipment solutions including pumps, hydrocyclones, valves and wear-resistant linings for the global power, mining and mineral processing sectors, and general industry. The plant turns over in excess of £120 Million per year.

(Installation of 50 + Flood barriers to numerous entrances around site).

Reason for requirement:

The river Calder runs directly through the Weir Minerals plant in Todmorden and in 2012 this river burst its banks and flooded the plant. The plant was shut down for only 48hrs but cost them more than £250,000.

Specifications:

To help protect Weir Minerals from future flood events, Floodsense were asked to visit site and propose a list of measures to help protect those areas that were affected. Weir Minerals proceeded to take our advice and instructed us to install over 50 demountable flood defence systems around site as well as installing our Hydro-cladding around a couple of vulnerable cladded buildings.
